Private-equity finds appetite for UK renewable energy

LONDON | Tue Oct 27, 11: 12 BST 2011

LONDON (Reuters) - has British renewable energy projects by private firm of equity, with the value which rose offers nearly 10 times 2010, legally published the sum of all numbers this year, the company of McGrigors showed on Tuesday.

The value of the renewable energy buyouts by private equity firm in the UK this year rose pound hit to 585 million, compared with 64.3 million for all in the past year reflects the growing attractiveness of green energy projects with investment funds.

"Private equity houses and other investors such as pension funds, have started, look at alternative values and renewable energy has become more attractive, as one of the options," said Euan McVicar, a partner in the energy and infrastructure team at McGrigors.

"The technology is more proof the infrastructure in many cases is up and running and commitment of the Government is clear and strong."

Still, the number of tenders shrank by two-thirds on only three project investments completed, showing so far in this year, that investors are ready, a small amount of major investments, rather than a large number of small deals to make.

"We at relatively modest average area have moved in mega deal," said McVicar.

Britain is to generate 15 percent of energy from renewable sources by 2020, which will require enormous investments in new technologies.
