Oilsands protest of Canadian actor support

Dave Thomas and other Canadian actors said on Tuesday that they planned support a protest against the Oilsands of Greenpeace in Ottawa.

Greenpeace said that hundreds of demonstrators Monday at the Centennial Flame on Parliament Hill wants to raise it. The protest would follow similar demonstrations in Washington, D.C., in August and cover with nine hearings by the U.S. Department of State over the next two weeks.

They are planned proposed for Washington and in States along the route of the Calgary based TransCanada Keystone XL pipeline.

It would ship refineries in the United States Oilsands of crude oil from Alberta.

The hearings will help determine whether the Obama management will grant a permit for the 2,700 km long pipeline by the end of the year.

Thomas, SCTV fame, said that he uses against the pipeline.

Thomas, known as beer drinking Lout Doug McKenzie, said the pipeline would be an ecological disaster, and that it must be stopped.

Other Canadian actor, who said that they support the planned sit-in include Graham Greene, Mia Kirshner and Kate Vernon. It is not clear, if present, the actors actually attend the demonstration.

Greenpeace against the development of Oilsands, say that it contributes to global warming. It also says that the pipeline that represents a spill would contaminate the Ogallala Aquifer, the main source of fresh water for the Great Plains.

Concern has the fragile Nebraska Sandhills which are above the aquifer, Nebraska Governor Dave Heineman call, led to the rejection of the pipeline on its current route.

TransCanada has said, a study shows that alternatives to the proposed route would be longer to interfere with more land and more crossing water.

Tuesday, the lobby for large US oil, the American Petroleum Institute, called for the White House supports the project as "one of the shovel ready projects the President keeps his programme jobs."

API cites a study on the basis of Calgary of Canadian Energy Institute, which will increase investments in the development of the Canadian Oilsands contribute research $ 775 billion for the US economy and create more than 500,000 new American jobs by 2035.

Almost 2,400 US companies in 49 States already participate in the development of Canada's Oilsands, API said that support U.S. infrastructure or Canadian development projects.
