Air Canada continued contract talks with flight attendants Monday ahead of a strike deadline on Wednesday at midnight.
The two sides have been discussing new proposals they exchanged over the weekend.
The federal Minister of Labour, Lisa Raitt, had wanted to meet with both sides today if a deal was not reached by the end of the weekend.
However, the two remain engaged in round-the-clock talks in Montreal.
Raitt was scheduled to meet with the two sides at 4 p.m. ET today in Ottawa, where she is expected to press both to reach a deal.
A strike by the 6,800 flight attendants might be short-lived.
When the airline's customer service agents walked out in June, Raitt introduced back-to-work legislation. As it happened, the two sides reached a deal within three days, before Ottawa could pass the measure into law.
While that strike slowed operations for the airline, a strike by the flight attendants would cripple Air Canada.
The airline has yet to disclose its contingency plans in the event of a strike, but has said it would operate a partial schedule with the help of its codeshare partners — international airlines with which it shares passengers.
